The 5.56 Mag Velcro Insert was designed both to optimize the carrying of AR-15/M4 style rifle magazines (.223 - 5.56x45mm) inside a Kangaroo front panel, and to improve their use in combat.

The MIL-W-5664 or Woven type elasticized band provides an inherently conforming pressure to the content that is reliable and repeatable. The Hypalon body structure, together with the inward pressure given by the elasticized band, ensures a secure retention of the content into the pouch via superficial friction that is extremely effective with polymer, stainless steel and aluminum magazines. The Hypalon fabric construction also provides an high degree of water repellency, which in wet environments and maritime applications results in higher mobility and lighter weight.

The Velcro® Ultra-Mate on the back, together with the Velcro® Velour on the front, allows the application inside the Kangaroo-type front panels or inside the Modular Reconnaissance Task Bag. However, a direct application on plate carriers such as the Defender Low Visibility Plate Carrier is also possible in order to obtain a minimalist and low profile solution.

The 5.56 Mag Velcro Insert is supplied without any upper retention system. In the case an additional retention for airborne employments and operations involving high speed vehicles is required, it is possible to apply the Elastic Open Top pullers kit retention system sold separately. This pouch features a built-in, double side and eyelet-free anchor point design for shock cord, which, in combination with its semi-rigid construction, is particularly beneficial in the reinsertion of the magazine ensuring a snag-free operation.
